Parametric Studies on the Braced⁃frame with Tube Dampers
Two braced-frame structures with tube dampers are proposed. The relative stiffness, relative length and yield ratio of casing dampers and the arrangement of tube dampers are changed. The finite element model is established by the software ETABS, and the dynamic time history analysis of the braced-frame structures is carried out. The base shear and the maximum interlayer displacement angle of the structure are used to reflect the seismic response, and the influence of the parameter changes and the arrangement of the tube dampers on the structural seismic response is explored. It is found that the relative stiffness, relative length and yield ratio of tube dampers should be 0.4, 0.5 and 0.2, respectively, for the first structural form. For the second structural form, the relative stiffness, relative length and yield ratio of tube dampers should be 0.6, 0.5 and 0.4, respectively. It is not the best strategy to set dampers at every floor. For the two structural forms installing tube damper proposed in this paper, the best energy absorption effect is achieved by setting the tube dampers at the bottom four layers.
