Experimental Study on Seismic Behavior of Traditional Chuan⁃dou Style Wood Frame with Embedded Brick Wall
One full-scaled traditional Chuan-Dou style wood frame and two full-scaled wood frames with embedded brick wall were designed and prepared. Quasi-static tests were conducted on these models to study their failure pattern, failure mechanism, shear capacity, deformation performance, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation performance. Results showed that the horizontal slide of the control pure wood frame was not obvious and the frame exhibited relatively large deformation capacity, while for the wood frame filled with brick wall, flexural rocking failure of the brick walls was observed during the loading process and finally the out-of-plane collapse occurred. The hysteresis curve of the pure wood frame was in typically inverse S-shaped and central clamping of the hysteresis ring was obvious, while the hysteresis curve of the wood frame filled with brick wall was spindle-shaped, and the hysteresis ring was full. Compared with pure wood frame, the initial stiffness, shear capacity, ductility factor and energy dispassion capacity of the studied frame greatly increased, while the ultimate performance capacity obviously decreased. The beam-column joints in the Chuan-Dou style wood frame were typically semi-rigid joints, with the rotational stiffness decreased with the increasing rotational degree. Due to the anchoring of the brick walls, the rotation of the mortise-tenon joints in the wood frame was not obvious before the failure of the specimens.
