Experimental Research on Seismic Performance of Composite Frame with Steel Plates Reinforced PEC Column and Reduced Sectional Steel Beam
To further study the seismic performance of PEC column-steel beam composite frame structural system
a small scale model of a two-story and one bay composite frame with a ratio of 1/2 was designed.Seismic test was conducted on the model under low-cycle reversed loading.Based on experimental observation and measurements
the hysteretic loops were derived
and the seismic performance
such as hysteretic characteristics
lateral resistant stiffness
mechanical behavior of joint
energy dissipation
ductility and failure mode were analyzed.The research results show that the model has a high bearing capacity and large lateral resistant stiffness.The location of the plastic hinge is away from the panel zone by reducing the beam section
and the force-transfer mode of concrete strut improves the shear strength in the panel zone with end-plate and through-out bolts connection.The test model has approximately a full hysteretic loop.Its global drift
ductility efficient and equivalent viscous damping ratio are 3.50%(push)/4.50%(pull)
2.92(push)/3.21(pull)and 0.306 respectively when its bearing capacity is still larger than 85% of its ultimate capacity.It proves that the test model has better deformation
ductility and energydissipation capacity.The plastic failure mode induced by the plastic hinges first occurs on the reduced beam section of steel beam and then at the foot of the PEC column.
