Transmission lines de-icing should be effectively done and should not cause any damage to the conductor.Considering the brittle characteristics of the ice-covering materials
this article puts forward a deicing method by bending
i.e.to restrict a length of ice-covering conductor and bend it by using ice breaking wheels so that the covered ice will be crushed and fall off from the conductor.By deriving the equation of bending stress of ice-covered conductor
a solid model of ice-covering conductor is built and the changes of covered ice and conductor stress are analyzed under different radius of ice breaking wheels
different thickness of ice cover and different loading force
respectively. The results show that compressive stress and bending stress grow with an increase of loading force.Within the range of calculated parameters
both of them exceed the crushing strength of covered ice
however
the conductor stress is under the crushing strength
proving that this bending-based deicing method is feasible. On the other hand
it also proves that the increase in the radius of ice breaking wheels and the increase in the ice thickness are not preferred. The derived formula of bending stress of ice covering conductors can provide a reference for the design of deicing equipment. To ensure effective deicing
an appropriate additional loading force can help achieve the desired deicing result.
