Failure Characteristics of Rock-like Mass with Different Fracture Types under Uniaxial Compression
Prefabricated fractured rock-like samples with cracks of different dip angles
different assemblies and different spacings were prepared using cement mortar.Uniaxial compression tests were carried out.The failure characteristics and failure modes of rock mass under uniaxial compression were analyzed based on the sliding crack theory. The result shows that the crack form
dip angle and rock-bridge length have a great effect on the compressive strength and failure mode. But the control parameter which plays a major role in different failure modes is not the same. The uniaxial failure modes of specimens with single crack and parallel double cracks of different dip angles are similar. The curve of peak strength is concave when the dip angles range from 0°to90°.The peak strength reaches its minimum value when the dip angle of the rock bridge is 45°.The compressive strength of the samples with non-coplanar intermittent cracks increases with the rock-bridge length. The samples with coplanar intermittent cracks are prone to be destroyed at a rock-bridge length of 20 mm.
