The failure of large liquid-storage tank under earthquakes may cause huge economic loss and secondary disasters. To obtain the seismic response and to get the vibration isolation effects of oil tank
the finite element method(FEM) was employed and the FE model of a large oil tank was established. The dynamic modes were obtained and the dynamic responses were calculated by FEM. Also
the responses for oil tank with rubber bearings were got. The results indicate that the responses in different earthquake time histories were much different and the dynamic responses were much obvious when there were more oil in the tank. The stresses were even two times in a full oil tank than the stresses for an empty tank. With the combination of lead-rubber isolating bearings and sliding bearings
the isolation effects were better and with the increase of the liquid in the tank
the isolation efficiency was higher. When the oil tank was full
