Comparative Analysis of Seismic Performance Indices Based on Stiffness Degradation for Reinforced Concrete Structures
Reinforced concrete structures are likely to suffer damage when subjected to earthquakes.In this paper
a new stiffness-based damage index proposed previously by some of authors was compared with Kunnath and Jenne index for their applicability in seismic damage evaluation.A fiber model for three-storey reinforced concrete frame structure designed according to the current seismic codes was established.Pushover analyses with three lateral load patterns and the dynamic time histories for typical ground motions of varying intensities were performed on the structure.According to the results of structural energy dissipation
the difference in the estimation of structural damage states between the two examined indicators was studied.Moreover
local storey damage extent of the reinforced concrete structure subjected to varying ground motion intensities was assessed by adopting the proposed damage index.The results show that the proposed damage index is not sensitive to the lateral load patterns for pushover analysis.As a result
the storey and the overall damage of the structure can be quantified by using the abovementioned damage index.And thus the weak storey can also be found.The proposed damage index demonstrates a rational way to predict the extent of damage to structures under an earthquake.
