Earthquakes not only induce large-scale damage to building structures
but also trigger disasters such as fire
tsunami and so.After earthquake events
building structures usually are damaged to certain degree. If the damaged structures with residual deformation
buckling
fracture and deterioration of material properties are subjected to subsequent extreme events such as fire
the fire resisting behavior of the structures are changed. In this study
two types of steel Ibeam to SHS column connection were designed for the experimental investigations.Earthquake induced connection damage was assessed.More importantly
two groups of connections with increasing pre-damage were tested in fire to investigate the effects of the pre-damage on their fire resistance. This study revealed that pre-formed fracture is one of the important factors which cause reduction of the fire resisting capacity of the chosen connections.
