Study on Effects of Fine Contents on Flowability of Saturated Sands
Based on the concept of the flowability of saturated sands during cyclic loadings
the effect of fine contents on the flowability of saturated sands under cyclic loading was studied through undrained cyclic triaxial experiments.Based on the test results
the main rules about the effects of fine contents on the flowability of saturated sands were analyzed from stress-strain rate hysteresis loop shape
flowability curve and average flow coefficient-pore pressure ratio curve. The experiment results indicate the development pattern and process of the flowability are similar for the saturated sands with different fine contents. The flowability of saturated sands during cyclic loadings is closely related to the grain composition of sands. For the tested saturated Nanjing Fine sands with fine contents from 0% to 20%
the relationship curves between flowability and fine contents are approximately convex parabola shape. For the saturated sand with a fine content of 10%
the pore water pressure ratio corresponding to the initial liquid state is minimal among the all tested samples. And the flowability before and after initial liquefaction are most remarkable.
