which are constructed on the sites of high earthquake intensity. So
the dynamic response characteristics and anti-seismic performance of the dams are the interested focus of engineers and researchers. The problem that the dam response becomes large because of the cut-off of boundary can be resolved by the application of artificial boundary condition in dynamic analysis of dam-foundation system. In this paper
some artificial boundary conditions(transmitting boundary condition
viscoous boundary condition and visco-elastic boundary condition)and their merits and demerits were presented
and the problems about the using viscoelastic boundary condition for the dynamic analysis of earth-rock dam on deep overburden layer were analyzed deeply.Studies show that
energy of scattering seismic waves can be absorbed by viscoelastic boundary effectively
and the elasticity recovery capacity of half infinite space foundation out of artificial boundary can be simulated through it too;there is no formidable difficulty in the using viscoelastic boundary for the dynamic analysis of earth-rock fill dam on deep overburden layer.
