Experimental Study on Seismic Behavior of Masonry Wall Subjected to Out-of-plane Loading
in which six full-scale unreinforced brick masonry walls are subjected to out-of-plane uniform loading by using a system of airbags. The analysis of failure characteristics
crack patterns
ultimate strength and dissipation capacity
stiff degradation
and energy dissipation ability of the walls are presented in this paper. The influences of width of walls
vertical compression and strengthening measures are also discussed. The results indicate that the fracture lines of walls are similar to the yield lines of a 3-way reinforced concrete slab. The walls can still keep larger displacement without collapsing after cracking
the vertical load can improve the initial stiffness and cracking strength
width increases can decrease the cracking strength and dissipation capacity
and the dissipation capacity of the wall can be increased after reinforced by the precast concrete slab at the corner
especially reinforced by the constructional column in the middle of wall.
