Substructure Testing Method and Numerical Simulation of Storage Tank Considering Interaction between Soil and Structure
Substructure testing method with shaking table was proposed for investigating the seismic performance of storage tank considering the soil-structure interaction(SSI)
and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the influence of SSI on the dynamic performance of storage tank before actual tests.Based on the assumption of elastic semi-infinite foundation
one2degrees of freedom 8parameters soil model was used for simulating the SSI.With the substructure testing method
the soil model was chosen to be the numerical substructure simulated in a computer
and the storage tank was the experimental substructure loaded with shaking table.The proposed substructure testing method for storage tanks has greater advantages than ordinary testing methods.The numerical simulations were conducted for investigating the influence of the SSI on the storage tank with respect to different foundation stiffness and liquid height.The results show that when considering the SSI
both the displacement and acceleration responses of the tank under El Centro ground motion were reduced.The response amplitudes corresponding to softening type soil model is less than the hardening type.The response amplitudes decrease with the increase of the liquid height.
