Shape multiformity and formation mechanism of shear band in normal consolidated soil under plane strain condition was analyzed based on Modified Cam-Clay Model.The results show that shear band is formed because of impact action caused by strain energy release.End friction restraint and initial defect in the sample can form inhomogeneous deformation
then induce shear band.The impact of different boundary restraint
initial defect set and their interactions on shear band were analyzed.The shape of shear band under plane strain was divided into single
cross and multisegment types
and the evolution of multisegment type shear band is observed to have time sequence.
