3D laser scanner coupling with the GPS could lead to a rapid and accuracy topographic measurement. The study is aimed to discuss the method of the coordinate transition from GPS to LiDAR system and the process of topographic measurement. The 3D laser scanner application in two landslide lakes caused by "5.12" earthquake had been proved to be high efficiency and prompt. It has an advantage of high scanning speed
high accuracy
low human resources consuming
high adaptation of complex environment. The LiDAR has a great potential for future application and is able to provide topographic information for hazards mitigation decision when the geologic disaster occurred.
