A framework for analysis of joint probability density function of wind speed and wind direction from parent population is proposed in this paper based on the following three assumptions:(1)the distribution of wind speed in any given wind direction follows identical probability model
say Weibull distribution for instance;(2)the correlation of different wind direction can modeled by relative occurrence frequency of wind data in each wind direction;(3)the variation of relative occurrence frequency and parameters of probability model follows harmonic function.By using this framework
the probability distribution feature of any wind direction can be easily calculated which is of great benefits for safety and reliability analysis of wind-resistant structures. The applicability of the proposed frame work is validated using the one-hundred year wind record of Macau City and 5-year wind record from a wind monitoring station.
