Deformation monitoring of PE pipelines is an important task in their installation and operation because they are susceptible to deformation.Brillouin optical time domain reflectometry(BOTDR)is a newly developed distributed measurement technique with characteristics of distribution
large distance and long duration.It has been used to monitor the deformation of structures.In this paper
an experiment was made to demonstrate the feasibility of applying BOTDR to PE pipelines for deformation monitoring.By comparing the measured angle with the calculated one
it can be concluded that BOTDR is good at measuring the stain distribution of PE pipelines and can be used as an online deformation monitoring method for PE pipelines.
