Three-dimensional finite element analysis has been carried out to evaluate the response of a sin- gle batter pile when subjected to lateral soil movements.Sensitivity studies are also presented through varying soil and pile parameters. The results show that the behavior of the batter pile was significantly in- fluenced by the pile flexibility
the magnitude of soil movement
the boundary conditions of pile head
the profile of the soil movement and the thickness of the moving soil mass. The deflections of the rigid batter pile are less than those of the flexible one
while the bending moment and shear forces of the rigid batter pile are more than the flexible one.The resistance-displacement relationships(p-y curves)of soil for non- linear springs of the batter pile look like the hyperbolic shapes
so the Winkler’s method for subgrade can be used to simplify the analysis of the batter pile through modifying the ultimate soil pressures of the verti- cal one to reflect better the behavior of the batter pile.
