Large pumped storage power stations are usually located in mountainous areas with remarkable relieves and complex landforms and geological settings. In this paper
a case study is conducted of a large pumped storage power station
which is one of national key projects.Based on rock mass parameter measurements in the field and in laboratory
numerical analysis is carried out to study the seismic effects of the complex site of the station by using two dimensional dynamic finite element method.According to anti-seismic protection requirements of this project
seismic response analysis of 8 seismic levels has been performed with exceedance probabilities of 63
10 and 3 percent in 50 years and 100 years respectively
and the analytical results indicate that the seismic effects vary remarkably with different sections of the site. The design seismic dynamic parameters of 8 anti-seismic protection levels are suggested for application to this project
which can be also used as a reference for other similar projects.
