Magnetorheological (MR) damper is a kind of intelligent actuator
which shows immense poten-tial in the field of structural vibration control. The voltage or current can be adjusted to induce MR damperto generate approximately the desired optimal control force
and this is the main way using MR damper inthe structural vibration control. In this paper
studies on control strategies of MR damper are summarizedin detail. The advantages and disadvantages of every strategy are described. The problem of how to designthe control strategies making the dissipative ability of MR damper under fluctuating current be optimal isalso discussed. The intelligent technology such as neural network
fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm maybe an effective solution in practical applications.
