About Journal

Founded in 1981 and published bimonthly, Journal of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering (CN 32-1695/P, ISSN 1672-2132) is an academic journal devoted to all aspects of engineering disaster studies. This journal is administrated by Jiangsu Earthquake Agency and jointly sponsored by Jiangsu Earthquake Agency and China Association for Disaster Prevention.

Aims & Scope

The journal aims to publish cutting-edge academic research articles and applied scientific research achievements worldwide concerning the extreme effects, damage, and destructive impacts of earthquakes, geotechnical disasters, hurricanes, fires, and explosions on engineering structures and infrastructure systems, and measures for disaster prevention and mitigation.

Indexing

In the past 10 years, with great support from the Editorial Board members, the journal is now indexed by worldwide academic databases including Core Journals of Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), Core Journals of A Guide to the Core Journal of China, The Key Magazine of China Technology, Core Academic Journals of Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (RCCSE), World Journals Clout Index (WJCI) Report, Japan Science and Technology Agency Database, Abstracts Journal (Pж(AJ)) (Russia), GeoRef (the USA), ProQuest (the USA), DOAJ (Sweden) etc.

Awards

The journal has received many awards, including Outstanding Science and Technology Journals of Jiangsu Province, China, and now is ranked at the T2 level of China’s High-Quality S&T Journals in Geoscience and Security.

History

Founded in 1981, the journal was known as Journal of Seismology. In 2009, it was changed into a bimonthly publication issued in both China and overseas. In 2003, the editorial office made a significant reform, changing the journal title to Journal of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering.

The establishment of the journal achieved a resounding success. As a result of its distinct and promising research directions, the journal attracted 10 universities and research institutions to be its co-sponsors, including Nanjing Tech University, Hohai University, Dalian University of Technology, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing University of Technology, Chongqing University, and Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, CAS), and East China Jiaotong University. In 2010, Academician Ou Jinping, a leading figure in disaster prevention and mitigation engineering, was invited to serve as the journal’s chief editor. The journal has a strong editorial team covering a wide range of specialties and fields.

In 2011, the journal established a biennial highest-level conference in China specialized in the field, i.e.  “National Conference on Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering”. The series of conferences focused on the engineering disaster issues caused by large-scale infrastructure construction and major building structure projects. It facilitated the exchange of the latest research results in disaster prevention and mitigation engineering at home and abroad and promoted the application of theory in engineering practice and strove to provide a safe environment for human residence and major projects. The first six conferences were hosted by Hohai University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen University, Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics (CAS), Guangxi University, and Beijing University of Technology. These endeavors have greatly enhanced academic exchanges and magnified the journal’s sphere of influence.

Columns

The journal has regular columns including Thesis, Review, Short Essay, Subject-specific Topics, Special Columns, News, etc.

Over the years, the journal has been seeking breakthroughs and development while ensuring the professionalism of earthquake research. Through measures such as joint publication with well-known domestic universities, hosting high-level academic conferences, and setting up hot topic columns, the content and research directions have been continuously adjusted, laying a solid foundation for the long-term development of the journal. The publication published multiple hot topics and columns, including “Energy Underground Structure and Engineering”, “Research on Building Seismic Isolation and Absorption Technology”, “One Belt One Road - Youth in Geotechnical Engineering”, “Research on Optical Fiber Sensing in Geotechnical Engineering”, “Research on Mechanism, Monitoring and Risk of Disasters”, “Reliability of Engineering Structures under Complex Environment”, “Research on Soil Improvement and Temperature Effect in the Background of Dual Carbon”, “Special Issue for the 40th Anniversary of the Journal”, “Urban Comprehensive Disaster Prevention and Resilience”, “Key Theories and Technologies for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Major Infrastructure in Difficult and Dangerous Mountains in Western China”,  “Monitoring of Marine Seismic Geology and Engineering Disaster Prevention and Control”. These topics and columns have received attention and appreciation from relevant institutions and professionals, and earned a good reputation across the industry.

Readership

The readership of this journal mainly consists of researchers, experts, and students in the field of disaster prevention and mitigation engineering.
