Studies were initiated for a simplified design procedure for ultimate limit state of hyperbolic cooling tower(HCT)shell
which considersvarious wind directions at present.The internal forces due to each load
especially the wind load
are simplified based on the analysis of internal forces under every single load of a HCT
including their dominating internal forces and their latitude distributions.Then a simplified reinforcement calculation procedure is proposed on the basis of axisymmetrical design principle.Compared with the conventional method
this simplified one can not only avoid the combination calculation of load directions
but also avoid reinforcement calculation in the whole latitude.For a certain height
just one group of internal forces is needed for the final reinforcement calculation.So
the computational effort is greatly reduced with just slight increase of reinforcements.
