Laboratory model test is used to investigate the influence on the retaining structure and surrounding sand ground settlement due to adjacent shield tunneling. The analytical results reveal that the retaining structure will cause restriction effects on surrounding sand ground settlement
and the stronger restriction effects appear at the retaining structure corner. There is a larger increase of the additional diaphragm strain and surrounding sand ground settlement caused by the arrival of the shield excavation face
while the additional diaphragm strain and surrounding sand ground settlement will be stable by the shield excavation face passing the monitoring section about 1. 7 D. In addition
the obvious bending deformation towards the tunnel will appear at the bottom of the corner diaphragm wall and middle of the central diaphragm wall caused by adjacent dynamic shield tunneling. The experimental results reveal the bending deformation law of the existing foundation pit caused by adjacent dynamic shield tunneling
which will be helpful to take pertinent measures for protecting the existing foundation pit.
