Typhoon " Soudelor" landed in Fujian Province in August of 2015

and caused great damage to the buildings of the towns and villages in the locally coastal areas.It is essential to investigate the damage and wind resistant performance of buildings in coast areas of Fujian province.Through investigation

it is found that there are some common characteristics for the houses destroyed by typhoon

such as grey tile roofs

poor integrity

small stiffness

structure aging

weak connection and without longitudinal resistance system.By further investigation

it is found that the destruction of town and village houses by typhoon mostly began with the roof

then leading to wall breakdown and even collapse of the overall house.The paper summarizes the causes and main structural characteristics of the destroyed houses in towns and villages of coastal zones

and points out some problems exposed under the construction of these town and village buildings.Finally

some suggestions are proposed in this paper

which are beneficial to wind resistance of the buildings on the aspects of planning construction and construction measures.
