Upstream vertical cracks of concrete dam belong to the open type of fracture mechanics(I)fracture.Cleavage cracks′intensity factor(KI)and fracture toughness(KIC)are the key parameters to judge the vertical cracks′extending.This article uses the basic theory of fracture mechanics to deduce them
and uses finite element to confirm the intensity factors and fracture toughness and calculates them by the actual engineering.Dam construction and operation are consistent with the actual situation.Calculation method of dam abutment crack parameters here can provide scientific basis for the safety evaluation of dams.
