When analyzing soil slope stability based on the strength reduction method
comparing with the traditional strength reduction method
selecting different reduction factors for the shear strength indexes was more in line with the slope instability mechanism. It can be named as dual reduction factors method. In order to further explore the dual reduction factors method in slope stability analysis in the specific application
aprogram for stability analysis of soil slope was presented based on commercial software FLAC-3Dand the principle of dual reduction factors method. The program can obtain different reduction factors combinations when the soil slope reaches limit equilibrium state. Two typical soil slopes were studied in this paper by using the program
and the results were compared with those of traditional strength reduction method and simplified Bishop method. The results show that:(1)differences between shear strength attenuation characteristics of soils can be reflected in the dual reduction factors method;(2)in the dual reduction factors method
SRFmin(the minimum average value of two reduction factors)is close to that of other two methods in solving the slope safety factor. Therefore
this paper recommends SRFmin as the practical factor of safety of slope when using the presented method.
