Bailuyuan locates in the southeast of Xi′an city. the occurrence of landslides at Bailuyuan have brought a lot of trouble to the life of local people

and restricted the contiuable development of local economy. The landslides at Bailuyuan mainly concentrate in three areas: （1） the side of Bahe river of Baluyuan; （2） the guliu village section near to Chanhe river; （3） the side of Jinyu gouge.among them

the landslides almost exist along the side of Bahe river in group. On the basis of the investigation of geological conditions at Bailuyuan

Xi′an and by using geological and remote-sensing methods

the characteristics of landslides at Bailuyuan are described

and the main facters leading to landslides in Bailuyuan are as follows: difference in topography

dual structure of stratum

lateral erosion of rivers and artifial cutting of slope toe.. In remote sensing image

the back edge of the landslide looks like a steep arc

and the sliding body seem to be broken

there are gullys developing on the surface of landslides. Moreover

the area without landslides looks like one integrated mass. Therefore

the remote sensing image reflect the characteristics of landslides very effectively.
