Reservoirs play an important role in fighting against both droughts and floods since they can store a large volume of water. On the other hand
reservoirs pose great dangers to life and property downstream in the event of dam failures
of which earthquakes is a natural triggering factor. Earthquakes usually cause slumps and cracks in dams which consequently fail to retain the impounding water. In this paper
the severity of the potential hazards of reservoirs is categorized into three degrees and countermeasures are proposed correspondingly against treating the hazards resulted from earthquakes.
